About the position:
This position is located at Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) in New London, NC and works collaboratively to ensure a safe environment for 16-18-year-old who are attending the Tarheel ChalleNGe Program.
This position receives guidance from the Commandant/Assistant Commandant and supervises the Youth Program/Education Assistant I's as well as interacts with cadets.
This position functions as a mentor, advisor, counselor and teacher while communicating the program standards and expectations to the cadets.
Employee identifies factors that could lead to inappropriate behaviors and makes corrections immediately.
Investigates allegations of cadet misconduct and takes timely, appropriate action as needed.
Transports and supervises cadets when participating in offsite TCA activities.
Maintains accountability and serviceability of assigned equipment and supplies.
Ensures cadets and coworkers use all equipment and materials in a safe and proper manner.
This position initiates counseling statements/incident reports when needed to document inappropriate behavior and other occurrences.
About the Tarheel ChalleNGe:
The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) is a quasi-military style resident program for at risk youth in the ages of 16-18.
Sponsored by the North Carolina National Guard, the TCA mission is to redirect the efforts of young adults who have had trouble succeeding in the normal high school environment.
The intent is to give them the skills and attitude to become productive citizens in their communities.
The Academies are located in two different locations:
Salemburg and New London, North Carolina.
It is a 17-month program divided into two distinct phases:
a five-month in-residence phase at the academies, and a twelve-month post-residential phase immediately following graduation for the in-residence phase.
TCA seeks to improve the life and future employment potential of its cadets by concentrating on eight core components which are:
Life Coping Skills, Academic Excellence, Responsible Citizenship, Job Skills, Service to Community, Health and Hygiene, Physical Fitness, and Leadership/Followership.

The mission of DPS is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through prevention, protection, and preparation with integrity and honor.
Included in this department are Alcohol Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Information Network, Emergency Management, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, NC National Guard, NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency, Samarcand Training Academy, State Capitol Police, and State Highway Patrol.
Also included are these Boards and Commissions:
ABC Commission, Governor's Crime Commission, Private Protective Services Commission, and Boxing & Combat Sports Commission.
DPS is comprised of approximately 6,000 permanent positions and nearly 13,000 NC National Guard temporary positions.

The salary grade for this position is MH07.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
Experience effectively supervising and training a staff of 3 or more.
Experience with youth and/or adults in one of the following areas:
Teaching, Coaching, Supervising.
Experience in documenting observations and report writing.
Experience in organizing and/or leading groups for training or service projects.

Associates Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience.
or High school or General Educational Development diploma and four years of directly related work experience.
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Necessary Requirements:
Selected candidate will be required to complete the following training provided by TCA:
Foundation and Cadre Courses; CPR (recertify every two years); Non-Violent Interaction Training; Gang Awareness; Hands Off Policy Training.
Obtain CDL license w/passenger endorsement as required to drive a bus to transport Cadets Necessary Special Qualifications As required by facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care.
Per 5 CFR 731, upon appointment, applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management.
Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
